[Men's Golf] Trevecca Men's Golf | Trojans 3rd; Larken Whittemore 2nd @ Midwest Regional
EUREKA, Mo. – The Trevecca Nazarene University men's golf team is third (290) of 18 teams after the first round at the 2018 Midwest Regional at Fox Run Golf Course The 36-hole event is hosted by the University of Missouri St. Louis.
Larken Whittemore leads the team and is second overall in the field of 96 with his four-under-par 68 on Monday. The 68 is the eighth best single round in program history.
Trevecca director of golf David Head said, "I am proud our play today. The team fought hard and are sitting in a strong position for Tuesday. Larken and Blain both played well from start to finish. Ryan hung in after a tough start and finished strong to help the team. Conner found some trouble in the middle of the round, but corrected and finished well. Johnny was playing ok but hit a big number on one hole that derailed his round. He responded with back-to-back birdies and we can only be proud of that response. He actually birdied the hole before, making it three birdies in four holes."

Larken Whittemore turned in six birdies on the day and shot a three-under 33 on the front nine and a one-under 35 on the front. Blain Turner recorded five birdies on the day and a 35 on the front and the back nine. Ryan Rozic shot even-par on the back nine and totaled three birdies on the day.
Whittemore recorded his 18th par or better round, which is second best in program history. Blain Turner, who recorded his 16th, is third on the all-time list.
Whittemore tied for the low average on the par four holes at four-under par (3.60) on the day. Blain Turner was next at three-under par (3.70) on the par four holes. Ryan Rozic is tied for ninth for the best average on the par five holes at one-under par (4.75).
Larken Whittemore leads the field with six birdies while Blain Turner is tied for third with five.
TREVECCA TEAM
The Trojans shot a 290 on the day as a team and are three back of host and leader, the University of Missouri St. Louis (UMSL).
TOURNAMENT FIELD REPORT
Lindenwood University is second and one stroke ahead of Trevecca. Trevecca is seven strokes ahead of Arkansas Tech and Maryville University.
Joe Sylven of UMSL is in first at five-under 67. Craig Stefureak of Dury is also at two-under tied with Blain Turner.
Fellow G-MAC members in the field include Hillsdale (8th / 301), Ky. Wesleyan (13th / 307), and Walsh (14th / 310)
WHAT'S NEXT
Trevecca's five will begin teeing off at 9:30 AM on Tuesday from hole #1 along with the top two teams, UMSL and Lindenwood. The last Trojan to tee off will be Larken Whittemore at 10:06 AM. Trevecca paired with UMSL and Hillsdale on Monday.
Following Tuesday's final round, the fall season concludes with play in the Austin Peay State University Invitational at the Greystone Golf Course in Dickson, TN October 15-16.
