[Men's Golf] Tichler, Bees win Clarke Fall Classic
Andrew Tichler was the individual medalist and led St. Ambrose to the team title at the Clarke Fall Classic at Eagle Ridge Resort in Galena, Ill.
Tichler was the only player in the 75-player field to fire consecutive rounds under 80. His back-to-back 77s left him with a 154 and a one-shot win over three players, including teammate Ben Hanser. Hanser, playing as an individual, shot a second-day 75 after opening with an 80 Friday, for his 155.
Thomas Resnick gave the Bees three players in the top five with his 158 (78-80) placing him fifth overall.
Strong starts by Tichler, Jake Sevcik and Devin Hartman, helped SAU open an 18 shot lead after the first round. Sevcik shot a tournament-leading 76 before slipping back with an 85 Saturday to finish in a tie for eighth with a 161. Hartman matched Tichler with a first-day 77 before carding an 88 to finish with a 165 total.
McGwire Eden was one Bee who improved his play in the second round, bouncing back with an 80 after opening with an 88.
The day two struggles cost St. Ambrose much of its lead in the 14-team event. The first-round 308 was followed by a 322 as SAU finished with a 630, six shots better than second-place Waldorf.
Also playing as an individual, Jordan Rowe tied Sevcik for eighth individually. He had rounds of 83 and 78 for a 161.
St. Ambrose will next compete in the CCAC Fall Preview at Cog Hill Dubsdred Golf Course in Lemont, Ill., next Friday.
