[Women's Golf] Brescia's Golf Team finishes 3rd
The Brescia University Ladies Golf Team finished 3rd in the IU East Fall Tournament on September 1st. The five team field included the 27th ranked team in the country in Freed-Hardman University as they took the event at the Richmond Elks Country Club. The Lady Bearcats were led by Emily Lyons who finished 8th overall in her second college tournament with a total of 167. Fellow freshman Brooklyn Spicer (169) and Meredith Mayes rounded out the top 10 with a (169). Veteran Brooke Hattabaugh fought through tough stretches in the middle of both her rounds to finish with a two day total of 185. Makenzie Moore played much better than her score reflected and rounded out the Lady Bearcat squad with a total of 199.
Playing in and through tough weather and a great golf course, the ladies gained a lot of experience this past weekend. Playing with a ranked team in FHU and a tough conference opponent in IU East, we now know what we have to do if we are going to be a force within The River States Conference. We have to get out and put the work in if we are going to catch up. With a little more experience from the freshman, and a little more consistency from the upperclassmen we can get to where we want to be. Coach Jason Cox says, "We have a team with a ton of potential and we are not close to shooting the scores we are capable of. However, with more experience and playing better competition like we have, we should start to see improvement very soon."
The Lady Bearcats play a match with KWC this Friday before leaving Saturday to head to Hanover College for a two day event this weekend.
