[Men's Golf] Men's Golf Opens Season
The Doane Men's Golf team opened the 2018-19 season on Tuesday at the Morningside Invitational in Sioux City, Iowa. The meet was played at Whispering Creek GC, a Par 72 course.
The Tigers showcased the depth of this year's squad as they took two teams to the meet and placed 5th and 6th overall. The "B" team posted a round of 315 while the varsity team posted a 319.
Leading the way for the "B" squad was Jack Schoenborn (SO/Castle Pines, Colo.) with a round of 73 to place 3rd overall. Micah Ramirez (FR/Loveland, Colo.) tied for 16th with a round of 78. Chase Largen (FR/Creighton, Neb.) tied for 30th with a round of 81. Nick Christiansen (JR/Fairbury, Neb.) notched a score of 83 and tied for 38th.
Kyle Zimbelman (FR/North Platte, Neb.) led the varsity squad with a tie for 7th as he shot a round of 76. Roger Sack (JR/Lincoln, Neb.) posted a score of 79 and tied for 24th. Takuma Yamashita (SO/Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.) shot an 81 to tie for 30th. Berkeley Meppem (JR/Okotoks, Alberta) shot an 83 to tie for 38th. JR Kanemura (JR/Lodi, Calif.) tied for 56th with a round of 85.
Playing under individual status, Trey Denno (JR/Hesston, Kan.) shot an 84 to tie for 47th and Cody Starman (SR/Strasburg, Colo.) posted an 85 to tie for 56th.
Northwestern was the team champion with a score of 306. Caleb Badura of Northwestern and Jonny Douglas of Morningside tied for medalist honors with rounds of 72.
Next Round
Doane will join Hastings and Midland on the links at York CC on Saturday, September 1, at 9 AM for a triangular meet.
