Nancy Kroll perseveres for record seventh NEWGA title
Voorheesville
Instead of 18 holes, Nancy Kroll looked as if she had gone 18 rounds Wednesday with the Colonie Golf and Country Club.
The course was wet and played much longer than its 5,547-yard scorecard length, but Kroll managed her swings well enough to knock out her seventh victory in the Northeastern Women's Golf Association championship.
Kroll, a 55-year-old Pinehaven member, broke Mary Jo Kelly's record of six NEWGA titles, carding two rounds of 85 for a 36-hole score of 170.
"I grew up playing NEWGA," she said. "It means a lot to me. There are some great winners on that trophy. It's important to me that we keep NEWGA strong and recruit more golfers and get some clubs that used to be part of NEWGA back in.
