Redwood City’s Lucy Li loses in quarterfinals at U.S. Women’s Amateur
In less than 30 minutes, Lucy Li went from a likely berth in the U.S. Women’s Amateur semifinals to being eliminated.
Li’s run in Tennessee came to an end Friday when she missed a 4-foot putt to save par on the 19th hole and was beaten by Kristen Gillman in a quarterfinal match at the Golf Club of Tennessee in Kingston Springs.
Li, a 15-year-old from Redwood City, never trailed in the first 18 holes and missed a potential match-winning putt on the 17th. On No. 18, Gillman, 20, staved off elimination with a birdie.
On the 121-yard first extra hole, Gillman’s tee shot landed about 10 feet from the cup and Li’s was more than twice as far away.
