[Brenau] Brenau Athletes Excel Academically in 2017-18

Eleven athletic teams earned 2017-18 NAIA Scholar-Team recognition for outstanding academic achievement, which capped off a banner academic year for the Golden Tigers Athletic Department.  

The Brenau swim team posted a 3.68 grade point average to lead the NAIA Scholar-Team awards, while ten other programs- basketball (3.23), cheerleading (3.08), cross country (3.21), competitive dance (3.31), golf (3.49), lacrosse (3.14), softball (3.53), soccer (3.00), tennis (3.50) and track and field (3.01) also earned the national recognition. Teams must post a minimum of a 3.0 grade point average and include all athletes on the certified varsity roster to be eligible.

In addition to the Scholar-Team awards, the Golden Tigers earned a host of other individual academic achievements during the season.

For all members of the department's 14 varsity athletic teams, the cumulative grade point average earned was 3.14. Forty-six different athletes achieved University Dean's List honors, while 28 were on the university's Merit List. In total, 26 athletes earned a 4.0 for the spring semester.

At the conference level, 59 Golden Tigers were named as Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) All-Academic team members (3.25 or higher cumulative GPA and completion of at least 24 hours of college coursework). At the national level, 27 Brenau athletes were honored as National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Scholar-Athletes (3.5 or higher cumulative GPA and must be at least a junior in academic standing).
