Bay Area amateurs to tee off in U.S. Senior Open
What happens when a longshoreman from Windsor, a retired lawyer from Oakland and a car dealer from Fairfield walk onto a golf course in Colorado Springs?
They play for a national championship, naturally.
This week’s U.S. Senior Open features the usual assortment of familiar names, from Kenny Perry and Bernhard Langer to Vijay Singh and Davis Love III. The marquee event on the 50-and-older circuit is an exercise in nostalgia, once-great golfers still grinding away in search of trophies and a payday.
Much like the U.S. Open, this senior edition also offers a cool connection between elite players and the common man.
