Get a Ruling • Provisional Ball played .
The following incident occurred in the qualifying round for The Open yesterday.
Player's second stroke with his original ball heads for some trees and rough - player correctly plays a provisional ball with the same result. A Spectator finds a ball ,advising a fellow competitor who is also searching.The F/ c calls out to player for details of the original ball and , when informed that it is a Taylormade 5 , points to the position of the ball lying in short rough which is now visible to the approaching player .The spectator in the meanwhile has continued searching for the second ball which he finds 15 yards further up ,closer to the hole and also lying in the rough .He informs the player who acknowledges the fact ,and states he will pick it up after playing his shot.
The player plays his stroke and then picks up the other ball , discovering that this ball is his original and he has played his provisional ball.
How must he proceed.?
