Chippings wrote:The following interesting incident occurred in a recent important stroke play championship.
Playing in threes - two players awaiting on green  and the other fellow competitor played a pitch and run from 40 yards.
The ball landed on the green , rolled up to the hole and rested against the flagstick .
One of the players raised his arms ,walked to the flagstick and gently nudged it with his putter to allow the ball to fall into the hole- a somewhat common occurrence I believe.
They all completed the hole and left the green.
Thoughts .
Could be very bad news for the player, I fear.  His ball was not holed.  It was moved by an outside agency and had to be replaced [18-1].   Had he replaced it and moved the flagstick to let it fall into the hole, all would have been well. You say they had left the green, but if he had  returned  before anyone started the next hole he could have replaced etc.  If he did not, he has failed to hole out and is disqualified.

Better news from 2019 on.  His ball might well  have been holed before the other player knocked it in. [13.2c]
