NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Great Midwest Athletic Conference announced the 2017-2018 G-MAC Men's Golf All-Conference team and individual awards on Monday.
In total, three different Trojans won six awards, including Larken Whittemore being named the 2018 Great Midwest Player of the Year. Blain Turner is the 2018 Great Midwest Tournament Medalist and 2018 Great Midwest Freshman of the Year. Trevor Lay joined Whittemore and Turner on the 2017-2018 Great Midwest All-conference Team.
Whittemore produced a record-breaking year for the Trojans, setting the Trevecca and Great Midwest mark for the lowest round when he shot a 64 in the Mississippi College Invitational.
After finishing in a three-way tie for first in the opening round of the Findlay Spring Invite, Whittemore claimed the individual title the next day shooting a two-day total of 140.
Whittemore totaled four top 10 finishes this year and finished in the top 20 in six of his eight events this year. His average round for the year, 73.05, was fueled by nine par or better rounds. Whittemore turned in a 12-under par 204 at the Mississippi College Invitational.
Whittemore was also named to the All-Conference team where he joins teammates, Trevor Lay and Blain Turner.
In addition to being recognized as the 2018 G-MAC individual medalist and member of the All-Conference team, Blain Turner was also named the 2018 G-MAC Freshman of the Year.
Turner put together a record-breaking freshman campaign for the Trojans, setting the record for par or better rounds in a season with 11.
Turner also owns the record for wins in a season (3). Turner averaged 73.28 per round over 23.5 rounds in 10 events. He finished in the top 10 of six events
Trevor Lay finished in the top 10 in scoring average in the G-MAC. Lay competed in 20.5 rounds and finished the season with a 74.88 scoring average in nine events. Lay had four finishes in the top 11. He produced four par or better rounds on the season and turned in a pair of 36-hole 147's during the year.
It is the second season in a row a Trojan earned the Great Midwest freshman of the year award.
The last time a Trojan was named the Great Midwest Player of the Year was in 2016, when Payton Williams took home the award.
