[Men's Golf] Trevecca Men's Golf | Turner/Whittemore NCAA Super Regional; Day One Results

FINDLAY, Ohio – The Trevecca Nazarene University duo of Larken Whittemore and Blain Turner are playing in the NCAA Division II Midwest/Central Super Regional at the Findlay (Ohio) Country Club.

 

Blain Turner is set to tee off from hole #10 at 12:20 PM on Tuesday. He and Larken Whittemore are playing alongside the University of Findlay and Minnesota State Mankato during round two. Larken Whittemore will tee off at 12:30 PM on Tuesday.

WHITTEMORE / TURNER REPORT   

Blain Turner is tied for 60th with a first-round four-over par 76. Turner turned in a three-over-par effort on the front nine with six pars. On the back nine, he shot one over and had a birdie on the par four 382-yard hole number 16.

 

Larken Whittemore is tied for 73rd with a five over 77. Whittemore shot a five-over par on the front nine then recorded nine straight pars on the back nine.

 

Larken Whittemore's 14 pars ranked him in a tie for eighth in the field, one par behind the top seven.

 

The TNU duo played from hole #1 with a 7:20 AM and 7:30 AM tee time on Monday.

 

TOURNAMENT FIELD REPORT

Tiffin University leads the field with a seven-under-par 281. Tiffin is set to join the Great Midwest for the 2018-2019 season. The University of Findlay, the 2018 Great Midwest champion, is tied for 19th with an opening round 305. They are the only current G-MAC team in the field.

 

Logan Price of Tiffin University leads the field with a five-under-par 67. Tiffin is set to join the Great Midwest for the 2018-2019 season.

 

Luke Kelly of the University of Findlay is the top current G-MAC individual in the field. Kelly shot an opening round three-over par 75 and is tied for 43rd.

The NCAA Division II regional field includes 80 teams and 32 student-athletes competing as individuals at the four regional sites which will feed the 2018 NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championships. Trevecca's Blain Turner and Larken Whittemore are two of the 32 individuals to make the regional round.

 

At a minimum, the top three teams and the top two student-athletes not with a team from each regional (regardless of region) will advance to the finals May 21-25, at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at the Shoals, Fighting Joe Course in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. The remaining eight-team berths will be allocated based on the regions represented in the prior year's head-to-head medal play portion of the championships, with the maximum number of teams from a given region capped at seven. The finals will be hosted by the University of North Alabama.
