MGA Quiz 2018 • Re: Q 23
On the serious breach issue..that is typically a Committee judgement call which, for me, needs a bit more detail than furnished by the question. Plus the fact that the question does not offer DQ as an option, I abandoned additional thoughts on the subject and just went for scoring the hole.Thom wrote:Kjell, doc568 and Marcalex
I agree with your numerical figuring but welcome your thoughts on whether a serious breach has been incurred.
We are told R28 is exercised as the ball is unplayable and the first drop is correctly completed but the ball has returned to "rest just short of where it originally lay and is in a similar lie". A similar lie to an unplayable lie raises the question: when the player lifts ball in play and ultimately plays it from a distinctly different and wrong place from which she can hit the ball onto the putting green, how can it not have been a serious breach? A serious breach would mean she does not yet have a score for the hole, she must return and proceed correctly under the rules.
