[Men's Golf] Trevecca Men's Golf | Team and Individual Records Broken on Day One at MC Invitational

MADISON, Miss. – The Trevecca Nazarene University men's golf team set team and individual scoring records at every turn during Monday's first and second rounds at the 2018 Mississippi College Invitational (MC Invitational). Trevecca set the 18 and 36-hole school records after recording a 273-280=553 at Lake Caroline Golf Club. Larken Whittemore set the same records for an individual with an 11-under par 64-69=133.

LIVE RESULTS TUESDAY

Trevecca director of golf David Head said, "I'm proud of how great the guys played. Last night before the round we talked about how well prepared they are for this spring. It's the best spring preparation we have had in my time at Trevecca, but if I'm honest, I'm not quite sure I expected this today. Yes, I knew they had it in them, and we aren't done yet, we still have a final round on Tuesday. We discussed keeping the pedal down and to not easing up."

"This tournament is only one-fifth of our spring schedule and on day certainly doesn't make our season. We are proud, but we also know this is just the start and we still have a lot of work to do before we reach our season goals."

Larken Whittemore's morning round of 64 broke the long-standing Trevecca and Great Midwest record of 66. When Whittemore scored a 69 in the afternoon's second round, he totaled 133 and added the 36-hole record to his growing collection.

The Trevecca 18 and 36 hole records were held by Joey Bradley who posted a 66 twice in his career, both during the 2011-2012 season. His first came in the third round at the Wasioto Winds Fall Kick-off, and he did it again in the second round of the Trevecca Invitational. Spencer Scarbrough and Joey Bradley (twice) held the previous best 36-hole totals at 138.

Whittemore leads the individual Medalist contest but by just three strokes over teammate Blain Turner who shot an impressive 68-68=136 and is second overall. Turner now owns the second-best 36-hole effort in school history. Turner's 68's are tied for the eighth best single rounds in program history.

The 18-hole team record, also recorded twice, rested at 280 previously. The second team 280 round came in the second round at last year's Mississippi College Invitational. The first 280 was recorded in 2011-2012 during the second round of the Trevecca Invitational. The previous best team effort after 36-holes is a 576 at last year's Mississippi College Invite.
