Safeway Open to donate ticket sales to Napa fire relief
Safeway Open officials announced Thursday that they will donate 100 percent of ticket sales from this year’s tournament to rebuilding Napa Valley and the region’s ongoing fire relief efforts.
The annual, season-opening PGA Tour event concluded Oct. 8 at Silverado Resort in Napa, hours before the devastating Atlas Peak fire erupted nearby. Several players and golf officials — including Stanford alum Maverick McNealy, NBC/Golf Channel reporter Roger Maltbie and tournament director Jeff Sanders — quickly evacuated the resort.
Forty-two people died in firestorms throughout Northern California that week, including six in the Atlas Peak fire.
