[Men's Golf] Men's Golf opens Spring season

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga.- The St. Andrews University men's and women's Golf teams opened their spring seasons at Coastal Georgia's annual Winter Invitational at King & Prince GC in St. Simons Island, GA and the Sea Island Retreat GC on Monday and Tuesday.

The men then finished 18th at the CGA Invite while Costal Georgia won the tournament with a 581 after shooting an under par 277 on day one. Fellow AAC schools Reinhardt and Truett then finished 9th and 13th respectively while SCAD was 11th and Bryan College was 19th behind the Knights with a 688. SAU shot a first day score of 320 before struggling in the tough weather conditions on day two to finish with a 352 and finish at 672.

Senior John Lyle (SR/Goodview, VA) led the Knights as he shot rounds of 75 and 90 for a 165 and 74th place finish while he was the only Knight to finish below 80 for the week. Sophomore Blake Bartlett (SO/Goldsboro, NC) then came next in 79th (166) after rounds of 84 and 82 to shoot the best round for SAU on day two and the only Knight to improve the next day.

Sophomore Andreas Pirc (SO/Hartheim, Germany) and junior Alberto Firpi (JR/Puerto Rico) also played well on day one as both shot in the low 80s with Firpi at 80 and Pirc at 81. However, both fell on day two and shot a 90 each with Firpi placing 89th at 170 and Pirc at 91st with 171.

Senior Corey Johnson (SR/Creedmoor, NC) also shot rounds of 89 and 96 on the week to complete the scoring. Junior Kaleb Measimer (JR/Concord, NC) played as an individual and shot rounds of 87 and 88 for a 175 and 96th place finish.

The SAU golfers are next in action Feb. 19-20 at the Georgetown Spring Invitational in St. Augustine, FL at the World Golf Village.
