Rules of Golf discussions and meanings • Re: Causing a ball to move after an invalid drop
This is a very good point. There is a significant qualitative difference between the OP and D20-1/13 where the ball must be played as it lies and accurately marked before it is lifted (which did not happen in that case). That is, we do not have any direct guidance in the decisions on the situation in the OP. However, the more general guidance in R20-1 and D20-1/15 still suggests 'directly attributable' needs to be interpreted narrowly (in advance of the new rules taking effect). If a ruling was requested on this situation, I don't think the outcome is a foregone conclusion.Adrian Mackenzie wrote: In D 20-1/13 the ball has been moved from a spot and it has to be replaced on the spot. In the OP the spot from which the ball was moved from has absolutely no relevance as to where the re-drop takes place from.
