[Men's Golf] Cavs Conclude Fall Season

Earlier this month, the Montreat Cavaliers' men's golf team closed out their fall season with a match play win over the Bob Jones Bruins at Pebble Creek Country Club in Greenville, South Carolina.

"This was a great way to finish out our fall season and give our younger players some experience in a match play format," said head coach John Sullivan. "We essentially play stroke play all year so it was great to see them respond so well and end on a high note."

In match play, individual holes are scored as a win or loss for a player and compiled to determine the round's winner. In stroke play, stroke totals for the round are compiled to determine the victor.  A 2-1 match play victory, for example, indicates that a player was ahead by two holes with only a single hole to play, and is declared the winner by a 2-1 margin.

Freshman Jacob Shamblin (FR/Matthews, NC ) captured a 2-1 win, and shot his lowest collegiate round with an even par 71 in the process. Nate Lowe (JR/Ware Shoals, SC) and Seth Perry (FR/Valdese, NC) captured 2-1 wins as well. Andrew Stewart (SO/Alexander, NC) won, 3-2, and Brandon Mathis (FR/Asheville, NC) lost on the last hole, but shot a 78 in his college debut.

The Cavaliers return to the links on February 26 at the Mars Hill Intercollegiate.
