[Golf] Hurn Wins Title at SAU Home Meet

LAURINBURG, NC- Returning senior national qualifier men's golfer Joe Hurn (SR/Mountaintop, PA) (Mountaintop, PA) fired a career high -4 under par 68 today during round one of the St. Andrews Invitational at Scotch Meadows Country Club in Laurinburg on Monday. He then shot a 71 on Tuesday to clinch the title at a career-best -5 under par 139. Hurn won by five strokes.

The SAU women finished in 2nd place out of 6 teams while the men finished in 3rd out of 7, just 3 strokes back of runner-up Methodist. AAC foe Brenau University (Ga.) won the title for the women while Cumberlands (Ky.) won the title for the men at 589.

The men shot 299 in round one, their first sub 300 round all season, and then 304 in round two to finish at 603, behind Methodist's 600.

Junior Alberto Firpi (JR/Puerto Rico) was behind Hurn in a tie with senior teammate Jordan Sharpe (SR/Wilson, NC) for 12th place and 2nd on the team after rounds of 76 and 77 for a 153 (+9) while Sharpe shot career best round of 75 on Monday and then another quality round of 78 on Tuesday for his 153.

Junior Caleb Hensley (JR/Monroe, NC) then finished in a tie for 16th after rounds of 76 and 79 for a 155 (+11) while senior John Lyle (SR/Goodview, VA) finished in 20th place with rounds of 79 and 77 for a 156 as SAU had six different golfers shoot sub-80 rounds including 11 total.

Sophomore Andreas Pirc (SO/Hartheim, Germany) then came next in 31st place as he struggled to an 87 in round one but improved by 8 strokes in round two for a 79 and 166 total. Fellow sophomore Blake Bartlett (SO/Goldsboro, NC) then came in right after as he shot rounds of 87 and 81 for a 168 to place 32nd as he also improved on day two.

Senior Corey Johnson (SR/Creedmoor, NC) finished 35th on the day shooting an 82 in round one and a 87 on day two to put him at 169 while junior Kaleb Measimer (JR/Concord, NC) shot a season-best 84 and 89 for a 173.

The Lady Knights shot 334 as a team in round one and then 332 in round two. Brenau's top two girls tied for the title and had to play a one-hole playoff afterwards.

On the women's side, senior Olivia Pruitt (SR/Duncan, OK) (Duncan, OK) and junior teammate Devon Omar (JR/Grovetown, GA) tied for third at 157. Pruitt shot quality rounds of 77 and 80 while Omar shot the only two rounds under 80 with a 78 and 79.

Senior Isabelle Sullivan (SR/Fremont, NH) then finished in 13th place as she shot an 89 on day one and then improved by five strokes on day two with an 84 to finish at 173. Freshman Hayley Reed (FR/Concord, NH) then shot career-bests rounds of 90 and 89 for a 179 to finish in 16th place overall.

The Ladies are next in action on Oct. 30-31 for the Maryville Invitational in Tennessee.
