Rules of Golf discussions and meanings • Re: Exception to Rule 27-2b
The section is about when is a provisional ball in play and it outlines the triggers and affirms the penalty. The exception is a reminder that if new information comes to light that these stated conditions have occurred, then the player is not required to continue with the PB and penalty free alternative approaches are available.golfbuddy3 wrote:The Exception to Rule 27-2b states: "If it is known or virtually certain that the original ball, that has not been found, has been moved by an outside agency (Rule 18-1), or is in an obstruction (Rule 24-3) or an abnormal ground condition (Rule 25-1c), the player may proceed under the applicable Rule."
Rather than just memorizing the Rule and moving on, I'm trying to understand if there is a purpose to this exception other than possibly saving time in these very narrow circumstances. Thank you.
