[Men's Golf] Tigers take season-best second place finish at Mike Lalaeff Invite
CROWN POINT, Ind. – Two Tigers, Zack Thorson (SR/Philo, Ill.) and Justin Bowman (JR/Indianapolis, Ind.), set the standard for the Olivet Nazarene University men's golf team on Thursday and Friday. They helped Olivet to a season-best second place finish at the Mike Lalaeff Memorial Invite hosted by Purdue University Northwest (Ind.). Both finished in the top 10, while Thorson was named to the five-man All-Tournament Team.
A total of 42 golfers played in the 36-hole, two-day event at the par-72, 7,050-yard course, White Hawk Country Club. ONU finished second overall with a team score of 631 (305-326, +55). Purdue University Northwest (Ind.) won the event shooting a 603 (300-303, +27). St. Xavier University (Ill.) finished third with a 638 (329-309, +62) and Governors State University (Ill.) came in fourth with a 641 (326-315, +65)
One of ONU's seniors, Zack Thorson led the way for the Tigers placing tied for fifth overall. He shot a 152 (76-76, +8). Right behind him was Justin Bowman who finished with a 153 (75-78, +9) and came in seventh. Jake Tuttle (JR/Hampshire, Ill.) shot a 163 (78-85, +19) to come in 19th. Kyle Dwyer (SR/Bourbonnais, Ill.) finished 22nd overall with a 166 (76-90, +22) and Luke Schneider (SO/Indianapolis, Ind.) came in tied for 37th with a 183 (90-93, +39). As an individual, Connor Vansteenburg (FR/Flint, Mich.) shot a 157 (76-81, +13) to finish 13th.
The Tigers will finish the fall portion of their schedule at the NAIA Preview Tournament played at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ill on Monday and Tuesday, October 16-17.
