[Women's Golf] Women's Golf Finishes 3rd After Strong Second Day

Storm Lake, Iowa –Grand View University women's golf team traveled to the Lake Creek Country Club on Friday and Saturday, September 22nd-23rd to compete in the Buena Vista Fall Invite. The Vikings finished in 3rd-place out of the 16 participating teams after a strong second day showing.

Grand View decreased its stroke count by 27 between the first and second day of competition. The Vikings started the second day in 6th-place but jumped up three spots by the end of the final round.

Grand View was once again headed by Maria Mantilla on the leaderboard. Mantilla (5), who just came off a win at the Graceland Invitational, carded a 160 (83-77). It was Kim Anak Nelson (T8), however, that made the biggest leap for the Vikings. After starting the second day tied for 26th- place, Nelson shot a +2 and catapulted herself into the top-10.  

The field was composed of a mixture of NAIA, NCAA Division III, and NJCCA schools in the Midwest. Jaime Bellingham of Des Moines Area Community College took the top spot while. It was Briar Cliff University, however, who took sat on top of the team leaderboard at the end of the first and second day of competition.
