[Men's Golf] Blain Turner / Trevor Lay lead Trevecca Men's Golf at Great Midwest Fall Invite

FINDLAY, Ohio – The Trevecca Nazarene University men's golf teams finished play at the 2017 Great Midwest Athletic Conference Fall Invitational Tuesday. Play was shortened to just nine holes due to a pair of weather and the tournament eventually was cut to a 27-hole event.

 

Blain Turner (FR/Mt. Juliet, TN) finished at par for the day took third overall with a one-under par (107) for the tournament.

 

The Trojans finished in third overall with a 451.

TREVECCA TEAM 

Trevor Lay (SR/Kewanee, IL) finished two-over for the day (38) and seventh overall with a one-over 109. Landon Cottrell (SO/Memphis, TN) turned in a 41 Tuesday and tied for 36th place with a 119. Payton Williams (SR/Clarksville, TN) rounded out the Trevecca contingent with a 40 Tuesday and joined teammate Mitchell Hockman (JR/Mahomet, IL) at 120 for the tournament Hockman, in his Trojan debut shot a 44 on the day.

 

TOURNAMENT FIELD REPORT

The University of Findlay, the tournament hosts, won with a four-over par 436. Malone University second with a 443 (+11). Trevecca was eight back of Malone and three ahead of Hillsdale College. The Chargers were fourth with a 454 (+22) and in fifth is Kentucky Wesleyan College 455 (+23).

 

TREVECCA INDIVIDUAL

Blain Turner led the tournament on the par four holes with a two-under par average of 3.87 ... Turner was fourth on the par three holes with even par total (3.00) ... Trevor Lay  tied for ninth in the field with a plus one par total on the par three holes, where Landon Cottrell had a plus two in par four scoring ... Lay tied for ninth on the par four holes finishing at two-over par (4.10) ... Lay also ended the day tied for seventh on the par five holes at two-under (4.67) ... Trevor Lay carded four birdies for a tie for 13th ... Lay tied for third with 19 pars on the tournament

 

LEADERBOARD DETAILS 

Findlay's Luke Kelly finished in first with a three-under par 105 for the tournament ...  Kyle Barnett of Malone University finished second with a two-under total of 106 ... joining Trevecca Blain Turner at one-under par and in third (107) is Liam Purslowe of Hillsdale.

 

WHAT'S NEXT

The Trojans will be heading to Springfield, IL for the University of Southern Indiana Fall Preview September 30 and October 1 at Panther Creek Golf Club. The University of Missouri-St. Louis hosts the Midwest Regional on October 9-10 at the Fox Run Golf Club in St. Louis, MO. The men's version of the Trevecca Music City Invitational at Foxland Harbor Country Club in Gallatin, TN will be held on October 30-31.
