[Men's Golf] Trevecca Men's Golf 2nd @ Great Midwest Fall Invite; Trevor Lay & Blain Turner 3rd

FINDLAY, Ohio – The Trevecca Nazarene University men's golf teams opened play at the 2017 Great Midwest Athletic Conference Fall Invitational today and return to the course for the final round on Tuesday at the Findlay Country Club.

 

Trevor Lay (SR/Kewanee, IL) and Blain Turner (FR/Mt. Juliet, TN) finished at one-under par for the day and sit tied for third with matching 71's. The Trojans are tied for second with a 296.

TREVECCA TEAM

Mitchell Hockman (JR/Mahomet, IL), in his Trojan debut, is 18th overall with a four-over 76. Landon Cottrell (SO/Memphis, TN) turned in a 78 for 30th. Payton Williams (SR/Clarksville, TN) rounded out the Trevecca contingent with an 80.

 

TOURNAMENT FIELD REPORT

The University of Findlay, the tournament hosts, leads the field with a one-under 287. Malone University is tied with Trevecca in second with a 296. Davis & Elkins College is in fourth with a 300 and in fifth is Hillsdale College (303).

 

TREVECCA INDIVIDUAL

Blain Turner topped the field on the par three holes with a one-under par total (2.75) and finished third in the field on the par four holes at one under par (3.90). Trevor Lay and Landon Cottrell tied for fifth in the field with a even par total on the par three holes. Lay and Mitchell Hockman tied for fifth on the par four holes finishing at one-over par (4.10). Lay also ended the day tied for second on the par five holes at two-under (4.50). Turner finished tied for the most birdies with five. Trevor Lay carded four birdies for fifth most. Lay and Hockman tied for seventh with 12 pars on the day.

 

LEADERBOARD DETAILS 

Findlay's and Ohio Dominican University's Jack Rubin are tied for first with first-round two-under par (70) performances. Trevecca's Lay and Turner are one stroke back in third at one-under par with Kyle Barnett of Malone. They are the only five players in the event to turn in par or under par performances.

 

WHAT'S NEXT

Round two on Tuesday before visiting Springfield, IL for the University of Southern Indiana Fall Preview September 30 and October 1 at Panther Creek Golf Club. The University of Missouri-St. Louis hosts the Midwest Regional on October 9-10 at the Fox Run Golf Club in St. Louis, MO. The men's version of the Trevecca Music City Invitational at Foxland Harbor Country Club in Gallatin, TN will be held on October 30-31.
