[Women's Golf] Eby comes in seventh overall, leads ONU to top-five finish
SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Among some of the toughest competition they have played in this Fall, the Olivet Nazarene University women's golf team still managed to finish in the top five. The Tigers had great conditions and overall outstanding play from all five players to keep them near the top at the Battle at Blackthorn hosted by Bethel College (Ind.). ONU shot 15 strokes better on day two, led by Stephanie Eby (JR/Lemont, Ill.), who carded a 76 (+4) on Saturday.
A total of 70 golfers played in the 36-hole, two-day event at the par-72, 5,972-yard course, Blackthorn Golf Club. ONU finished fifth with a team score of 659 (337-322 +83). Bethel College (Ind.) won the event with a score of 620 (319-301, +44). Taylor University (Ind.) shot a score of 631 (319-312, +55) to finish second. University of St. Francis (Ind.) came in third with a score of 645 (317-328, +69). Indiana Wesleyan University finished fourth with team score of 650 (327-323, +74).
The Tigers had five golfers in the top 30. Stephanie Eby led the way with a 157 (81-76, +13) to finish tied for seventh. Mackenzie Mehaffey (JR/Winchester, Ind.) finished tied for 14th with a 164 (85-79, +20). Julie Hogan (SR/Pontiac, Ill.) shot a 169 (85-84, +25) along with teammate Kesley Fisk (86-83, +25); they both finished tied for 25th. Jessica Ackman (JR/Beecher, Ill.) finished tied for 29th with a 171 (86-85, +27).
ONU will play next weekend in the UW-Whitewater Fall Classic at Blackhawk Country Club on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 22-23.
