Get a Ruling • Re: Bal in water hazard
When a player substitutes the ball in play under an inapplicable rule and then plays from a wrong place, the applicable rule applied may be either R27-1 or R13-1. This is dependent on whether or not the player knew the location of the original ball when the substituted ball was played. This idea is explained in Decisions 18-2/8 and 8.5.OempaS wrote:thanks for response.
Since the player did not play his ball from the place where he played his previous stroke it could not be stroke&distance 27.1 ??
i would expect rule 20-7c is applicable since he played his second dropped ball from a wrong place ?
The criteria for a player knowing the location of his original ball includes things like direct sight of the original ball, or being informed of it's exact location. Having a reasonable understanding of it's location would not be adequate to apply 13-1.
