TRETHORNE GOLF CLUB COMMITTEE MEETING   Minutes of Committee Meeting held on Monday 7th August 2017   PRESENT S Saunders, H Gushlow .J Vidler, L Jewell,  D Shovell, C Edmonds, C Roberts, I Forbes APOLOGIES C Brewer, J Grainger, J Austin, C Eyles, D Gibbard, J Flux, G Saunders, Meeting Started at 1900hrs. Acceptance Minutes of Committee Meeting 3rd July2017 Matters arising. See AOB COURSE REPORT  Weather A drier start to the month with irrigation still needed timed with penetrant wetter applications to try and limit the dry spots. This turned on its head half way through with increasing rain requiring applications of wetter to try and stop puddling and flooding! 95mm of rain recorded. Greens We are cutting virtually every day due to the sustained growth. We have applied light foliar feeds when needed but very little recently . We are aerating with micro cluster tines every two to three weeks weather depending, as well as verticutting roughly the same frequency when the sward needs thinning.  We also micro hollow tined mid month with a light topdressing after. Disease pressure has increased due to the mild wet periods we have had. This has been countered by applications of iron and preventative fungicide. Verticutting can only be done when dry so this has been left for a couple of weeks, subsequently the sward has thickened and ball speed slowed slightly , this will be rectified when dry enough to verticut again. The month ahead requires some deeper tining and lots more topdressing to start to prepare the greens for autumn. Tees/surrounds/approaches  These are being double cut at least twice a week. The good growing weather has encouraged great recovery despite heavy play and we are not suffering from lots of divots on the tees this year. The tees have been heavily top dressed too. Tees have also been growth restrained again. Fairways/rough Both areas are being cut twice a week. Some of the burned areas have greened back up. We have applied growth restrainer to some areas of the rough to slow them down. The topper has also been out and working hard to cut down some of the wild rough around the course such as the carry on 13. Other work We are trying to edge the bunkers every two weeks or when needed. Strimming run ongoing every week with current growth rates. Ongoing machinery maintenance and repairs always take a fair bit of our time and we have had a lot this month! New second green being hand cut three times a week, slowly lowering the height as we go. Some hedges have been lowered around the course, such as around the 16th tee. We have raised some more trees around the 16th, 1st and 18th. Some total weed killer has been applied on paths and around trees, this will be completed when the weather improves . Any questions Mr Captain Sir pass them along to Justin or myself and we will try to answer them.   August 2017 Captains report: Mens round up The weekend stableford, Saturday & Sunday July 15 & 16 Paul Lakey with 37 points from Bob Bettison on 36 The Scoble challenge, Sunday July 23rd Colin Roberts retained with 37 points from Simon Price 37 (CB) The Club Championship, Saturday July 29th Jim Carswell retained his scratch title scoring a two-round total of 152 from Andrew Dance’s 165 Les Jewell won his first, but surely not last, handicap title with a two-round total of 142 from Andrew Wilson 142 (CB) The Paragon Cup, Sunday August 6th Going into the second leg 5.5- 5.5, Boringdon were a little too strong for the team and won the away leg at Boringdon 6.5 – 3.5 County round up CGU Lord Lieutenants Trophy, Sunday July 30th Represented by Geoff Saunders & Les Jewell, Ian Forbes & Colin Roberts and Andrew Dance & Andrew Froude, the two Andrew’s came home the winning victors from the trio, but alas just not good enough to take the trophy outright CGU Maxam Cup, Sunday August 13th The 36 hole foursomes medal scratch event seen Jim Carswell & Gary Marquand, Peter Hodgins & Simon Schofield and Ian Forbes & Colin Roberts. Representing the Club for the first time in a few years, unfortunately the “rub” of the greens did not go our way; but never the less I am informed the day and experience was good. I am delighted that The Point, Launceston and Merlin have confirmed the match fixtures for 2018, and as such have been put into the fixture list for the coming season; trying to keep the games in North Cornwall, confirming these five games (Launceston bi-annual) happily is showing the fixture template works, but does need attention mid-season. The knockout games have run smoothly but are experiencing some requests for extensions, due to illness, other commitments. The competition committee hear each request and judge each on their merit. This aside, I am absolutely confident all games will be completed by the FINAL play by date, October 1st. Due to business commitments, the section has lost Lee Bowers. As a friend as well as Captain, I am sure we will see Lee return when able, but meanwhile wish him all the very best. With CGU winter league soon upon, there will be a number of discussions concerning eligibility and availability for team selection. In the normal way, the selections and start sheets will be displayed on the board in reception. Les has kindly agreed to step in for the absent Handicap Secretary until his return, to which I am personally grateful, and am sure the same is echoed around the Club. Prior to Geoff’s departure all competitions were set ready to automatically start. Chris Brewer will be available to assist Les where ever required Jon Vidler, Club Captain Finances Matters arising The CC asked in conversation whether the procedure to close down a competition be done so the Tuesday following the event allowing the organisers, he included, to
