Harding Park to host Stanford golf tourney
Fewer than two months later, his alma mater announced Thursday that it will host a college golf tournament at San Francisco’s Harding Park — where Tatum spearheaded the course’s dramatic renovation.
Goodwin coached several prominent Cardinal players, including Tiger Woods, Casey Martin, Notah Begay, Joel Kribel and current Stanford coach Conrad Ray.
“It’s exciting for Stanford to partner with TPC Harding Park in playing host to The Goodwin,” Ray said in a statement released by the school.
Harding hosted the American Express Championship in October 2005, when Woods outlasted John Daly in a memorable duel; the Presidents Cup in October 2009, when the U.S. beat the International team; and the Match Play Championship in May 2015, when Rory McIlroy.
Harding is a fitting home away from home for Stanford golf,” general manager Tom Smith said in a statement, “and I can’t think of a more appropriate tribute to continue Sandy's vision.
