TRETHORNE GOLF CLUB COMMITTEE MEETING   Minutes of Committee Meeting held on Monday 3rd July 2017   PRESENT S Saunders, H Gushlow .J Vidler, L Jewell, D Shovell, C Edmonds, C Roberts, I Forbes APOLOGIES C Brewer, J Grainger, J Austin,C Eyles,D Gibbard,J Flux, G Saunders,   Meeting Started at 1910hrs.   Acceptance Minutes of Committee Meeting 8th May 2017   Matters arising.   See AOB   COURSE REPORT  Firstly apologies for my absence on Monday it is my daughter’s birthday. Weather We have had extremes in the last few months of hot dry periods reaching 34 degrees to weeks of wet rain at 15-20 degrees. During the dry spells a lot of irrigation has been needed to keep the greens going, we came through them well with just a few dry spots that this week’s rain should help to heal. This was aided by applications of wetting agent timed with the irrigating. Greens We are cutting virtually every day at the moment with good controlled growth aided by light foliar feeds when needed. We are aerating with micro cluster tines every two to three weeks weather depending, as well as verticutting roughly the same frequency when the sward needs thinning. Disease pressure has been minimal due to the fine dry periods but we expect a flush during the current unsettled weather which we will spray for when necessary. Tees/surrounds/approaches These are being double cut at least twice a week. The fine weather has helped maintain great coverage and speed of recovery on the tees. The tees only burning up the last few days of the dry spell. The tees were growth restrained towards the end of May and we will repeat this if we get another flush of growth. The tees were also sprayed with a selective herbicide to control weeds. Fairways/rough Both areas are being cut twice a week. Fairways and rough were sprayed with a selective herbicide as well, some areas of the rough have been growth restrained to prevent them getting too thick a sward. Other work We are trying to edge the bunkers every two weeks or when needed. The fourth bridge has been repaired. The never ending strimming continues! The ladies path to the fifth tee has been started and is settling before the top layer is added. The ponds on the 1st and 4th have been desilted. Trees have been raised up between 3 and 4, 6 and 17, plus by the paths on 17, 5th tee and 14th tee so buggies can pass underneath easily. Sprinkler heads have been set on the new second green and have been used a few times. The new second green area is being cut with rough, fairway, surround and green given some definition.  Still a long way to go to improve the playing surfaces here The blockage in the feed to the 1st pond was cleared enabling wafter to refill or again. Some hazard marker posts have been replaced. Some rotting rails have been removed. Ongoing machinery maintenance and repairs always take a fair bit of our time. Other news Some staff reshuffling has happened in the last few months with Nick Carroll moving on to the sister site at Boringdon.  To replace him young Alex, who many of you will know, has joined as our new apprentice. Cliff worked with us part time for a few weeks but decided not to continue. Any questions Mr Captain sir pass them along to Justin or myself and we will try to answer them.    CAPTAINS REPORT Weekend June 10th/ 11th: The winning Trethorne team, participating in the Tamar Cup was, Darrel Shovell & Simon Schofield pipping the overnight leading home team Les Jewell & James Carswell. Hearing great reports of Bude and North Cornwall Golf Club & Holsworthy Golf Club, I am delighted that all enjoyed. The June weekend stableford seen an entry of 4 persons, and whilst some may say we should be promoting these weekend qualifiers, I am content the general golf uses these events as qualifier scoring opportunities. The 11th seen the Launceston College Rescorla Day. Whilst an open event, Trethorne are delighted that the College decide yearly to use our Club rather than our nearby neighbors; as such a number of players supported the event. Weekend June 16th-17: In almost the most perfect conditions, the Committee day event was played on, Saturday 17th, and seen more than 85 entrants of the main event and an additional 21 partake in the social sections such as the putting competition and BBQ. With brilliant feedback from Members and visitors alike., I would sincerely like to thank all who took part. An unfortunate human error (if its good enough for the BAFTA’s…), seen the wrong placement of winners take to the podium; I have spoken with the announced winning team and the actual Champions of the day and offered my sincere apologies for the error. With the support of our corporate sponsors I have offered, and which has been widely accepted, to let the prizes remain, but add a fourball game at St Pierre, Chepstow for the overall winners. The lesson to be learnt from this; default. I am informed by the Treasurer that the final accounts have not been drawn up yet, but as soon as have been done, a full statement will be distributed to all. Weekend June 24th/ 25th: Saturday the 24th seen the ever-youthful Mr Dance on firing a fine 68, and becoming the 2017 Truscott trophy Champion! County news felt to the hands of the over 55’s, taking part in the County Seniors Team Championship. Chasing the Trevose score of 125, unfortunately team Trethorne (Geoff, Colin, Les, Ian, Gary and Ivor) only managed to record a 133; but it must be said Mr Marquand and Mr Edmunds carded a brilliant 64 to home glory and finish overall 7th in a field of 72 pairs. Les and I took part in the annual invitation by the CGU President, to play for the
