The Open 2017: Justin Thomas' throwback outfit includes tie and button-down shirt

We're playing golf in church clothes again.

Well, we're playing golf in ties, cardigans, and button-down shirts again.

The Open Championship always produces a host of interesting fashion choices and Justin Thomas fired the first volley this week with his Thursday outfit. The young American star showed up on the range at Royal Birkdale in a Polo outfit that seemed more suitable for church or a formal occasion than a multi-million dollar pressure-packed sporting spectacle.

While most of these stars usually have some autonomy in telling their sponsors how far they'll go, they often also just show up in whatever they're given in what is the modern-day scourge known as "scripting."

Thomas told Golf Channel's Todd Lewis that he had some input in the arrangement, working with his clothing booster to put it together in advance at the one event he where he thought he could "pull it off." It's drawing both the most intense criticism and plaudits on Twitter and achieved probably what the brands are always going for at these things. So whats' your verdict?
