Scottish Open 2017: Tee times, TV channel, and live stream for Sunday
The strongest event on the European Tour is a perfect warm-up for The Open and some links golf at the oldest major championship.
The month of #coffeegolf continues on Sunday morning with the Scottish Open, arguably the strongest event on the entire European Tour schedule (non-major and non-WGC division, of course). The Scottish often draws the strongest field of the year on the Euro circuit, as a host of PGA Tour regulars and other international stars descend on the U.K. in advance of The British Open. The Scottish has generally been the perfect week of prep, with the European Tour now making an effort to visit different links courses that will provide comparable conditions and style to what the players will face at the oldest major championship in golf the following week.
This year's Scottish Open is also a part of the Rolex Series, the European Tour's new category of events with enhanced status and purse money. This is the third straight week of a Rolex Series event, following the French and Irish opens that started the month of July. There are only eight tournaments in the Rolex Series so this is a particularly strong cluster on the schedule — the strongest of the year and part of what makes July maybe the best month for golf-watching.
You get some coffeegolf watching the links in the morning and then some PGA Tour staples in the afternoon. This Sunday also features the U.S. Women's Open, the most prestigious major championship in women's golf, and the Senior Players, a major championship on the 50-and-over circuit. There's also the American Century Championship, which is a far less serious and important golf event, but a fun alternative watch with Stephen Curry and friends having a party on Lake Tahoe.
This is Golf Channel and NBC's moment to shine. They're in the second year of their coverage of The Open and put all their might behind the sole major in their possession. The Scottish Open will get some additional love again as well due to its strength of field and the way in which it can serve as a natural appetizer for The Open. Golf Channel has all the rights to the European Tour, so we're used to waking up with those events. But the Scottish gets the call up to the the big network and concludes on NBC. This is a schedule feature they've run with the last couple years and it's back again in 2017.
And with Rickie Fowler, Matt Kuchar, Ian Poulter, Beef Johnston, RCB, and Graeme McDowell all with late tee times, there should be some power names to feature in the late coverage. Here's your schedule for the final round:
