Minutes of Committee Meeting held on Monday 5th June 2017 PRESENT S Saunders, J Vidler, L Jewell, D Shovell, I Forbes (Guest) APOLOGIES H Gushlow, G Saunders, Meeting Started at 1900hrs. Acceptance Minutes of Competitions Committee Meeting 6th February 2017 Matters arising. Members Night Committee day Halfway house CAPTAINS REPORT As always May seen several competitions being played, both here, within County and in Club. Taking off from last report: May 14th Whilst Gary Marquand and Andrew Froude were striding the fairways of Perranporth to be the best performing home team at this years’ Royal Cornwall Goblets, whilst the Cawsey shield was being played for on home soil, with victory going to Martin Brooks, James Gardner and May 15th Geoff Saunders and Les Jewell represented Trethorne well in the Monday event of County week, The Seniors and Founders cup; but again, with no leader board placement. Geoff managed to see off the youthful challenge from Les and finish a couple of shots better, recording the home player’s victory. May 20th seen the annual Ford Trophy being played, with the winner of the day being Simon Price scoring a sizzling 65, with Andrew Wilson carding a 69 for second position. May 21st Les took his team to on an away mixed match against Tavistock, coming back with an impressive “half”. I am informed “I would take a half in an away match anytime”; so, this would mean the Legend is and was happy. Continuing true to form, Les partnering Mr Hodge not only played at Bowood, but came away winning the 2017 Senior Open. No easy task when you consider the size of field. May 31st seen changes to the member’s fun night with the roll up now starting at 4.45 and pre-arranged games from 5.30. On arrival, by registering with Ian Murray, the event is open to ALL to enjoy. This years’ Boundy challenge seen the Rest of the World give the Cornwall, Devon & Somerset team a lesson, when taking the spoils 1.5 – 4.5 June 2nd the PAL squad have unfortunately lost their last two matches having won their first openers; but I am informed not to panic just yet… June 3rd match against Holsworthy (away) seen Captain of the day Les Jewell come home triumphant beating our Devon neighbor’s 5.5 – 2.5 See AOB Halfway house, there is a proposal to build a halfway house behind the 9th green, comprising of a 2 toilet structure including a kitchen and space for vending machines and a decking area on the outside. Estimated cost is between £5000 and £10000. This will be discussed at the next full committee meeting and possibly the next member’s forum. Members night, Ian Murray will still run the competitions each week, tee times are between 1645 and 1730 members should register and collect their cards from Ian. Any members wishing to go out later is ok, following the competition presentation will be made by either Les Jewell, Darrell Shovel or Paul Lakey Committee day Graham Evans is not able to act as meet and greet beforehand but Richard Hayday has said he will take his place. Camelford Co-Op are no longer supporting the event however Spencer and Richard of Martins cash & carry have agreed to supply the halfway house via a sale or return basis By entering all players are entered automatically into a draw for a 4 ball at St Mellion (Nicklaus Course) St Mellion (Kernow course) have given a 4 ball voucher for charity (Lanson pre school) cost will be £1 per ticket. Paragon have donated a 4 ball at Thurlestone for the charity foodbank, There will be a general raffle costing £1 per strip. Questions have been asked regarding competitions being off blue tees, to be discussed. Note since the meeting the Club Captain has looked at this matter and has said that the majority of club competition’s are still off blue tees Finished at 2015hrs Next meeting Monday 7th August 2017
