Dave Skinner Bench Unveiled
I was honoured to be involved in the unveiling on Saturday, of a bench to commemorate our late colleague and friend, Dave Skinner.
Dave had spent his whole life supporting Dartford Football Club. From becoming Chairman of the Supporters Association in 1988, he was the first Chairman of the club after the loss of Watling Street in 1992.
Dave spent the next 31 years as Chairman and Co-Chairman putting his own money in to the club at times and being a strong advocate of youth football and the building of our player pathway, which now sees boys and girls playing from the age of 7, all the way to senior football.
Also in attendance on Saturday at the small ceremony was his Worship, the Mayor of Dartford, Councillor Peter Whapshot and his Mayoress Norma, Leader of Dartford Borough Council, Jeremy Kite MBE along with Dave’s brother, Fred.
Other attendees were Councillor Darren Povey along with Supporters Association Chairman Geoff Ashburn and other members of the Association.
The plan is to use the area that the bench has been sited, as a memorial area for supporters to remember loved ones in a peaceful setting.
Our grateful thanks go to Dartford Borough Council for providing this great memorial to a great character and sorely missed supporter of our great club.
Steve Irving
Chairman.
