Thomas Frank sets 50-goal aim for Tottenham after Brentford’s attacking success

0 7

Thomas Frank has made an interesting admission about Tottenham Hotspur’s struggles to create chances and score goals at home this season.

Spurs are winless at home in the Premier League since their opening game of the season against Burnley.

What would concern Tottenham fans is that it is not just results that are bad but also the performances, with the Lilywhites struggling to create chances at home.

That has led to a challenging atmosphere at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on occasions, with Frank’s substitutions even being booed by the Spurs supporters.

Thomas Frank contrasts Tottenham’s struggles with his Brentford side last season

The irony is that the 52-year-old managed a Brentford side who scored more goals at home than any Premier League side last season.

Frank has now explained that his Bees side were deadly because they had an attack that clicked, and he is confident that Tottenham will also be prolific once their forwards gel together.

When asked about Brentford’s goal record at home last season compared to Spurs’ struggles this term, Frank told Football.London: “That was a little bit of a journey together, and the team clicked at that time with a front four of Yoane Wissa, Bryan Mbeumo, Kevin Schade and Mikkel Damsgaard.

“The front three scored 50 goals between them, and Dams was unplayable at times. So they clicked, and that’s what we are working very hard to find now, to make it click. So I’m not in doubt that it will come. I hope we see signs of it on Saturday, how we want to do things.”

Frank may not get time if the results do not improve at home

Reports indicate that the Tottenham hierarchy view Frank’s project as a long-term one and will not make any knee-jerk decisions.

One can understand why the Dane is asking for time, given that Spurs essentially have a new-look front-four this season.

However, if they continue losing matches at home, the atmosphere will become toxic very soon and may leave Spurs with no choice but to make a managerial change.
