Why Bruins’ Morgan Geekie Feels ‘Out Of Place’ Amidst Hot Start

Boston Bruins forward Morgan Geekie is off to a hot start, but he admits it has him feeling out of place.

Geekie entered Thanksgiving in second place in the NHL in goals with 17, just one back of Nathan MacKinnon. It’s been an incredible start for Geekie, who’s helped the Bruins have plenty of success to begin the season.

Although Geekie has been a top player in the NHL this season, he does admit he feels out of place when he looks at the goal leaders.

“It’s weird because those people are still so far above me, it’s weird to see your name up there,” Geekie said, via NHL.com. “It’s obviously an accomplishment you’ll look back on, like, oh, that was pretty cool. But I mean, just, I don’t know. Those are household names. You feel out of place, almost.”

Geekie has been playing alongside Pavel Zacha and David Pastrnak, and although many have said he’s only good because of Pastrnak, the Bruins star is proving those doubters wrong.

Geekie signed a six-year, $33 million extension with the Bruins this offseason, and already the contract looks like a great one for Boston. He’s recorded 17 goals and six assists for 23 points in 25 games this season.

Boston will return to the ice on Friday at home against the New York Rangers at 1 p.m. ET. The Bruins enter play with a record of 14-11-0 and are in third place in the Atlantic Division.
