Blood, Sweat and Cheers

This weekend marks the five-year anniversary of the Welsh Blood Service and FAW’s ‘Blood, Sweat and Cheers’ campaign, which encourages football clubs and their communities to give blood and save lives.

Every donation has the power to save three lives. You can bag a hat-trick of lives saved by donating blood.

The ‘Blood, Sweat and Cheers’ campaign is a community partnership between the Welsh Blood Service and the FAW, JD Cymru Leagues and Genero Adran Leagues.

Since the campaign launched in 2020, clubs in Wales have saved 3,200 lives. Every day, blood, platelet and stem cell donors come forward to save lives; from accident victims to cancer patients and new mothers during childbirth.

Only three per cent of the eligible population donates blood.

If the 22 players on the pitch represented the population of Wales, not even a single player would be a blood donor. Together, football clubs in Wales have the power to change that.
