Craig Breslow Makes Thoughts On Garrett Crochet Extremely Clear
After a successful 2025 campaign, all eyes are on Craig Breslow and the Boston Red Sox entering the offseason. With loads of money and assets at their disposal, the Red Sox are expected to be busy when it comes to addressing their needs before the new season.
The biggest move the Sox made last offseason saw them acquire Garrett Crochet in a blockbuster trade with the Chicago White Sox. Considering how Crochet just earned a second-place finish in the American League Cy Young race, it’s safe to say that move worked out quite well for Boston.
Trading for Crochet was a bit of a risk, but the Red Sox now have a proven, de facto ace leading their starting rotation for the foreseeable future. When speaking on Crochet, Breslow made it clear just how excited he is to have him on his roster.
“He was phenomenal,” Breslow said of Crochet, per Chris Cotillo of MassLive. “There’s really no other way to categorize what he meant to our team this year. It’s what we had hoped he could be when we traded for him, but to see that actually materialize is great.”
One of Boston’s main goals this offseason involves acquiring another starting pitcher to come in and operate as the No. 2 starter behind Crochet. Guys like Freddy Peralta and Joe Ryan have been floated as potential trade targets early in the offseason.
Crochet may not have won the Cy Young Award, but that doesn’t discount what he did on the mound for the Sox last season. And if all goes according to plan, it will only be the first in a line of several strong campaigns for the dominant left-handed hurler with his new team.
