Red Sox Pitcher Stays With Organization After Clearing Waviers
The Red Sox designated right-handed pitcher Luis Guerrero for assignment last week, but he cleared waivers and Boston outrighted him to Triple-A Worcester on Thursday.
Guerrero appeared in 22 games for the Red Sox over the past two seasons. Last season, he pitched in 13 games, covering 17.1 innings while allowing nine hits, 10 strikeouts, and finishing with a 4.15 ERA.
The 25-year-old pitcher’s 2025 campaign was cut short in late June due to an elbow injury. Boston placed Guerrero on the 15-day injured list before later transferring him to the 60-day injured list.
Boston drafted Guerrero in the 17th round of the 2021 MLB Draft and made his Major League Baseball debut against the Chicago White Sox on Sept. 8, 2024.
Guerrero was born in the Dominican Republic but eventually moved to Boston as a kid. He expressed that playing for his favorite team is truly a dream come true.
“It’s a dream come true,” Guerrero said on Sept. 6, 2024, via Sean McAdam of MassLive. “I’m happy to be able to be here. It’s happiness all around, because I have a lot of family here that’s going to be able to come and watch me play. And for me, that’s very important. Also, I’m grateful for the opportunity that this organization has given me to play here, for my childhood team.”
