Red Sox Rumors: Craig Breslow Reiterates MLB Offseason Priority

It was reported on Thursday morning that the Boston Red Sox were considering adding a reliever to the back end of their group to create a “super” bullpen.

Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow didn’t rule out bringing in a new relief pitcher this winter on Thursday but reiterated what the team’s offseason priority is.

“Craig Breslow said the Red Sox are open to exploring all ways of improving run prevention – including the bullpen – but their priority is the rotation,” The Boston Globe’s Alex Speier posted on Bluesky.

This lines up with what the former left-handed pitcher said on Monday at the beginning of MLB’s annual general managers’ meetings.

Free agent All-Star third baseman Alex Bregman’s potential return to Boston next season is uncertain, but the offense projects to get back a trio of injured youngsters in Marcelo Mayer, Roman Anthony and Triston Casas.

If Breslow and company target a starting pitcher via trade this winter, Minnesota Twins All-Star Joe Ryan will likely continue to be a name to watch.
