'We rate him highly': England coach singles out Man United wonderkid for special praise
Manchester United wonderkid Shea Lacey continues to turn heads with his immense potential.
Lacey is part of the England Under-20 squad that will face Japan on November 14.
The 18-year-old was included in two training sessions with the U21s this week and impressed coach Lee Carsley.
Carsley told the Daily Mail: “He’s been in the pathway a good amount of time now and he’s a player that we rate highly.
“It worked out well that we needed that position for the training we were doing and Shea was more than happy to come over and train with the Under-21s.
“You can see he’s a good talent. I know he’s struggled with injuries in the past, which has probably held back his development, but I think it’s so important we don’t rush these young players, we let them develop in their own time.
“I think he trained two sessions with us and I enjoyed having him.”
Lacey has thrived in the United academy as a right winger.
He has been a regular for the club’s U21 set-up this season, bagging two goals and one assist in five Premier League 2 games.
He has also been involved in first-team training sessions under Ruben Amorim, blowing away the coaching staff with his technical ability and vision to create chances.
Though injuries have repeatedly disrupted his development, Lacey now appears closer than ever to a senior breakthrough.
Amorim is set to lose Amad Diallo and Bryan Mbeumo for a few weeks next month due to the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Both have caused huge problems for the opposition’s defence from the right flank.
Their imminent absence will open the door for Lacey to step up and make his mark.
He looks tailor-made for the right-sided number 10 position, with his ability to cut inside onto his left foot before firing a strike or releasing a through pass.
