CLASS OF 2025-26 | MEET MYA LEWIS-POWELL

0 23

Mya Lewis-Powell was one of the new arrivals to be signed by management duo Connor Dymond and Martin McCarthy, as she swapped the colours of Ebbsfleet United for Dartford FC Women this season.

The versatile forward has added more quality to an already excellent squad of players, as she brings an additional work ethic to the group. Her importance to the team is already in evidence, as she’s already made ten appearances (nine starts) and chipped in with two goals to date.

And Mya’s clearly delighted to now be a part of the Dartford family…

“I’m excited to have joined a new team. I’m pleased to be within a team that’s challenging for promotion. I want do all that I can to help the team get promoted, and to win as many trophies as we can, as well as have a successful run in the FA Cup.”

That last statement is certainly in motion, as the ladies recently progressed to the Second Round of the competition, after destroying Forest Green Rovers FC Women 5-1. They’ll now face Keynsham Town Ladies later this month with the intention of reaching the Third Round.

But success isn’t the only reason why Mya joined the Darts…

“I want to become an established player here at Dartford, and keep on enjoying my football. I bring determination and strength, as well as energy to an already buzzing team.

“My favourite position to play is right wing-back. I love to beat my opposite player in one-on-one situations and get balls into the box. However, I do set high standards for myself and, if/when I don’t achieve them, I can be disappointed.”

She may have moments of disappointment, but Mya certainly isn’t one to give up. And, being a part-time player means that she’s wise and attends the gym at least three times a week in order to keep herself as fit as possible.

“Preparation is key. It’s important to fuel your body properly with food, sleep, and hydration no matter who the opposition is. We never give up, and the game is never over until the final whistle. We just have to keep focused on the end goal, while taking each game as it comes.”

She continues, “I completely back the team to achieve our goals. We’re united as a group and we all share the same end-goal.”

In addition to all that of course, is the fact that like her peers, Mya works outside of the game too. However, she has the whole balancing act under control…

“Early mornings and late nights can be challenging. Waking up early for work and then getting home late after training can be a challenge. It’s something I’ve juggled with since my school days, so I’m used to now. But it can be difficult at times.

“Balancing my academic and professional career with football has been difficult in the past, but it’s all about communication and organisation. Football has been an integral part of my life since I was a child, and I’ve worked so hard to get to where I am now, so I’m not ready to stop yet.”

It certainly seems that Mya has everything organised and under control. Has she ever received any advice that she tries to stick to?

“To be proactive and to not be reactive on the pitch, which allows you to anticipate any scenario the game might throw at you.”

Does she have any advice for the next generation?

“Football doesn’t just stop on the training pitch. You need to put in the extra work if you want to play at a higher level. You need to be constantly developing, as every day is a learning day.

Such true words spoken by someone who knows what it takes to succeed in this wonderful sport of ours.
