Craig Breslow Gives Red Sox Injury Updates On Three Players

Boston Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow provided injury updates on a trio of players on Monday night at MLB’s annual general managers’ meetings.

Amid rampant rumors about who the Red Sox could pursue in free agency or via trade this winter, fans are also keeping tabs on the status of first baseman Triston Casas (knee), infielder Marcelo Mayer (wrist) and outfielder Roman Anthony (oblique).

“I’m always reluctant to put timelines on things that are months away because I feel like you either meet them and everything is OK and you don’t sometimes for no reason other than things pop up and there are questions about what the setback was,” Breslow said, according to a report by WEEI’s Rob Bradford. “Triston is anticipating being ready for spring training. Exactly what that looks like, we’ll find out. But he’s moving around really well. He’s committed to living in Fort Myers for the offseason to make sure he gets the treatment and support that he needs.”

Casas suffered a season-ending ruptured left patellar tendon on May 2, ending his 2025 campaign after just 29 games.

Mayer underwent wrist surgery in August after suffering a sprain on July 23.

“Marcelo’s been making great progress to the point that he was pushing to get back in time if we would have continued deeper into the postseason,” Breslow said, per MassLive’s Christopher Smith. “But he’s having a good offseason out on the West Coast, getting bigger and stronger.”

Anthony went down with an oblique strain in early September that cost him the end of his rookie season.

Breslow said, per Bradford’s report, that the Rookie of the Year finalist is “completely asymptomatic” and is expected to begin his usual offseason activities on schedule.
