Napoli 0-0 Como – Conte: ‘I am happier today than after some wins’

0 1

Antonio Conte praised his Napoli side for their spirit and intensity after a demanding 0-0 draw with Como at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, describing it as a “European-style” match between two brave, proactive teams.

“I saw a match played at a very intense level,” Conte told DAZN, via IlNapolista.

“They can complain about the penalty incident, but in the second half we deserved something more. Many think Como are a small side just because they’re called Como, but they’re a real team doing great things. Compliments to them and to us, because we produced a serious performance despite the difficulties with players forced off.”

Conte: ‘Elmas and Gutierrez delivered performances of substance’

Conte reserved particular praise for Eljif Elmas and Gutierrez, both of whom impressed in a physically demanding encounter.

“Elmas and Gutierrez played really well: two performances of substance. We pressed high and tried to win the ball, and they did the same. It was a European-style game where no team sat back in their own half. I’m much happier today than after some wins, because I got a response from a real team.”

Conte: ‘A fair result; Lukaku working hard to recover’

When asked about Cesc Fabregas’ claim that Como “deserved to win,” Conte was magnanimous but firm.

“Como played very well, but let’s not forget they also beat Juventus recently,” he replied. “They’re a growing side. If we talk about the result, I don’t remember a save from Vanja. Overall it was a fair result – they had the better first half, but we were stronger in the second.”

Finally, Conte provided an update on Romelu Lukaku’s injury recovery, expressing cautious optimism about the Belgian’s progress.

“I don’t know – you’d have to ask the doctors,” he admitted. “He’s working hard to absorb a serious injury. His presence is always positive for the group and for himself. We’re happy to have him around, and we’ll be even happier when he’s back on the pitch.”
