Trey Yesavage Labeled ‘Possible X Factor’ For Blue Jays In Game 7
Toronto Blue Jays rookie starting pitcher Trey Yesavage has already done more than his fair share of work in the 2025 World Series, but could he be called upon one more time in Game 7?
Both the Blue Jays and Los Angeles Dodgers realize that there is no tomorrow beyond Saturday night. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts, who’s expected to make Shohei Ohtani his starter for Game 7, said on Friday night following Game 6 that every Dodgers pitchers on the World Series roster not named Yoshinobu Yamamoto will be available for Game 7.
If the Blue Jays follow a similar blueprint, that would make everyone outside of Kevin Gausman available, including the 22-year-old Yesavage (with Max Scherzer expected to start).
Interestingly, The New York Post’s Jon Heyman pointed to Yesavage as a potential Game 7 X-factor for the Blue Jays.
“He could be a Game 7 weapon,” Heyman wrote. “He may throw more as a possible X factor in the deciding Game 7.”
Yesavage has thrown a combined 11 innings in his two World Series starts (Game 1 and Game 5), tallying an ERA of 2.45 and 17 strikeouts.
With everyone from Toronto’s Yesavage to Clayton Kershaw of the Dodgers not off the table in terms of a Game 7 appearance, predicting what will happen in this game is pretty much impossible, which only adds to the excitement, of course.
To be clear, Ohtani and Scherzer — the expected starters — hold a ton of power in terms of getting their clubs off to a good start in the biggest MLB baseball game since 2019 (the last time there was a Game 7 in the World Series).
Believe it or not, Scherzer was the Washington Nationals’ Game 7 starter in the ’19 Fall Classic. The Blue Jays are hoping Mad Max can get a similar result to six years ago, but the Dodgers’ star-studded lineup — featuring an awoken Mookie Betts — will surely have something to say about that.
