Burnley pre match chat

0 10
Real football starts again soon.

And after a spirited but ultimately a defeat vs Tottenham we currently sit 15th with 1 win in 6 but 4 points above the relegation zone.

Our opponents next time up are a familiar foe, last seasons Championship runners up Burnley.

They themselves can claim an element of being competitive in many games, but ultimately points have been harder to come by with narrow defeats to Manchester United, Liverpool and Aston Villa.

They have taken points off Sunderland, Nottingham Forest but have lost 4 of the last 5 in the league.

In terms of formation Scott Parker has flipped between his preferred 4-2-3-1 and in more recent weeks a 5-4-1 which becomes a back 3 in possession.

They have the lowest average possession in the league at around 36%, and rank bottom 2 for ball progression which shows an issue getting up the pitch preferring a low block.

Lowest shots overall, 2nd lowest shots on target and lowest shots per 90 minutes.

And they give away the most shots against.

In terms if style when they do get the ball they aren't tied to one style, they will keep the ball, or go lond depending on the situation and they rank high for crossfield passes to get the wing backs or wingers 1v1

Despite the struggles they were competitive vs Liverpool in a narrow defeat and vs Manchester United who needed a penalty and an own goal to get the win so clearly capable of something on the day.

Furthermore home form wise in 3 games they have a win and a draw so a better home side than away.

In terms of key players.

Former LUFC loanee Jaidon Anthony is having a very decent season so far with 4 goals and 1 assist in the Premier League. He ranks high for dribbles and chances created as well as many defensive stats and is one of the best performing wingers in the league so far.

Loanee Portuguese holding midfielder Florentino Luis is a man with a big reputation and a lot of untapped potential who may not have hit the heights expected but he has been a solid performer for Burnley. He's shown himself decent on the ball with a high pass accuracy and a decent ball progression player ranking high for dribbles. But its defensively where he shines, he ranks top 90% duels won, tackles won, interceptions and blocked shots.

So a side perhaps a bit similar to ourselves? Struggling a bit more but shown an ability to be competitive whilst maybe lacking that bit of X factor at times to get the results.

However as we know Burnley were an issue for us last season taking 4 points off us so nothing is certain.

In terms of ourselves

Is this one of those games where whilst not must win anything less could be seen as a missed opportunity down the line?

Will DF set up to contain as he tends to away from home or will he see this as an opportunity to go for it a bit against a more even opponent?

Don't know about injuries yet but fitness permitting any changes you'd like?

James, Gnonto, Piroe, Bijol?
