Chelsea plot double swoop for attacking reinforcements, including Man United star

0 21

Chelsea retain an interest in Manchester United forward Alejandro Garnacho despite the signing of Jamie Gittens, who plays in the same position as the Argentine.

According to The Guardian, the Club World Cup winners are ready to step up their pursuit of Garnacho while working on a deal to sign Xavi Simmons from RB Leipzig.

The Argentina international was a regular for Man United last season but was excluded from the Europa League final line-up against Tottenham Hotspur.

He was unhappy with manager Ruben Amorim’s decision and made up his mind to leave – a position that has now been confirmed by the Portuguese coach.

He has not played any part in Man United’s pre-season and has been told to move to the under-21s dressing room.

The 21-year-old wants to stay in the Premier League, which could serve as encouragement for Chelsea.

However, they face competition from Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa for his signature. The North London side could now step up their interest in him following the departure of club legend Son Heung-min.

The Blues value Garnacho at £30 million, less than United’s £70m valuation. The possibility of involving striker Nicolas Jackson in a deal now looks impossible, as United are close to signing Benjamin Sesko from Leipzig.

The Red Devils may need to lower their asking price for the left-winger to leave the club this summer. With the possible arrival of Sesko, they need to sell players such as Garnacho to balance the books.

United are not expected to pursue a replacement for him as they have already signed Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, and they have other players who can fill his void.

Cunha and Mbeumo are suited to playing as a number 10, making them a better fit for Amorim than Garnacho.
