'Final stages': Barcelona 'advancing' with talks to sign £43m Man Utd star - Ornstein
Barcelona are in advanced negotiations with Manchester United to sign Marcus Rashford.
The Red Devils have had a good summer transfer window. They have already made two high-profile signings.
Matheus Cunha signed for the club from Wolverhampton Wanderers. He is expected to be joined by Brentford winger Bryan Mbeumo.
With the duo’s arrival, United also need to free up space in the squad with potential outgoings over the coming weeks.
Journalist David Ornstein today reports that Barcelona are ‘advancing’ with talks for the loan transfer of Rashford with an option to buy.
The proposal was made via intermediaries. United are also open to the solution, and talks between all parties are now at the ‘final stages’.
Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has already spoken with the Red Devils graduate, and has approved the forward’s move to the La Liga giants.
Rashford, valued at £43 million by Transfermarkt, is considered as a versatile attacking option for the Blaugrana. They plan to utilise him on the left wing or upfront.
Man Utd could benefit from Rashford’s exit next summer
The £300,000 per week star fell out of favour under manager Ruben Amorim at the end of last year, and he was subsequently loaned out to Aston Villa during the back end of the season.
Rashford showed promise at the Midlands outfit with 10 goal contributions from 17 appearances. Villa opted against triggering a £40 million buy clause due to his hefty wage demands.
The attacker refused to accept a pay cut for a permanent deal. He is now poised to secure a dream move to the Blaugrana. After months of speculation, the transfer saga is set to conclude.
United could benefit from Rashford’s exit next summer. They will save his hefty wages for the entire campaign. A good loan stint with the Blaugrana would guarantee a permanent sale.
With Rashford on his way out, the Red Devils now need to focus on parting ways with Jadon Sancho, Antony, Alejandro Garnacho and Tyrell Malacia, who are deemed surplus to requirements.
