Expert names “most likely scenario” in Alexander Isak to Liverpool transfer saga

0 27

It seems most likely that Alexander Isak will end up staying at Newcastle United despite strong transfer interest from Liverpool.

That’s according to football finance expert Stefan Borson, who has commented on the intriguing saga unfolding with Liverpool’s potential striker transfers this summer.

The Reds could be set to sell Darwin Nunez to a PIF-owned club in the Saudi Pro League, meaning the same money that funds Newcastle could also end up helping LFC to sign the Magpies’ star player.

While many Liverpool fans’ focus for now will be on how to buy Community Shield tickets for their upcoming game against Crystal Palace, there’ll also be plenty of eyes on the market.

Is Alexander Isak transfer realistic for Liverpool?

Speaking to Football Insider, Borson discussed how likely a potential deal for Isak could be, as well as the interesting connection with the Nunez saga.

“If Liverpool could get some crazy fee for Nunez out of Saudi Arabia, say to the point where they could put, let’s say £150m on the table,” Borson said.

“I don’t know, maybe, but then you’ve just got the lunacy of a situation where on the one hand, PIF are paying for a Liverpool player and then Liverpool are just giving them the money back via Newcastle.

“By the way, if that was to occur, there’s a very good chance that there’d be people looking at the deal and going, ‘Hang on a minute, those deals look connected’.

“On the one hand, you’ve got a connected party of Newcastle United buying a player from Liverpool, and then Liverpool buying from Newcastle who are a subsidiary of Saudi Arabia, so I think there’s all sorts of challenges with the deal. I think the most likely scenario is Isak stays at Newcastle.”

Liverpool also working on signing Hugo Ekitike

As well as the links with Isak, it’s also been reported that Liverpool are advancing in talks to sign Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt.

The Athletic have been among the outlets to report on this, with LFC clearly not putting all their eggs in one basket, even if there has also been genuine interest in Isak.

Newcastle will surely do everything they can to avoid selling Isak to Liverpool, so Ekitike is probably the more realistic option of the two.

The talented young Frenchman shone in the Bundesliga last season, finishing the 2024/25 campaign with an impressive tally of 22 goals and 11 assists in total in all competitions.
