Fenerbahce in "contact" to sign £40m Man Utd star as Victor Osimhen nears Galatasaray transfer - report
Fenerbahce have made contact with Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford regarding a potential transfer this summer, according to journalist Sercan Hamzaoglu.
The England international fell out of favour under manager Ruben Amorim in December last year, and he was subsequently loaned out to Aston Villa in February.
Rashford had a good stint at the Midlands outfit with 10 goal contributions from 17 games, but Unai Emery’s side did not trigger the £40 million buy clause.
Fenerbahce have now joined the pursuit of the United graduate. They have reportedly made contact with the player’s camp to assess the forward’s requirements.
If Rashford gives the green light to play in the Super Lig, Fenerbahce are prepared to knock on Manchester United’s door with an official transfer offer.
Rashford’s stance could be key to Fenerbahce deal
Fenerbahce finished 11 points behind arch-rivals Galatasaray in the Super Lig last season. Victor Osimhen played a significant role in the latter’s comfortable triumph (26 league goals).
Osimhen is on the cusp of joining Galatasaray on a permanent deal from Napoli, and Fenerbahce may want to react with a high-profile acquisition of their own to stay competitive.
It appears the club have received the green light from manager Jose Mourinho to pursue a deal for Rashford. The attacker now needs to decide on the next step for his career.
United are looking for around £40m to part ways with the 27-year-old. However, his hefty £300,000 per week basic wages are proving a major stumbling block towards an exit.
Villa pulled out of the race as a result. Rashford is now keen on joining Barcelona, but the Spanish champions are only exploring a season-long loan deal for his services.
The Blaugrana consider him the ‘icing on the cake‘ and believe a late loan can be sealed.
In our view, Fenerbahce are unlikely to secure his signature unless his current stance changes.
The Istanbul giants should be able to meet Rashford’s wages with the very low taxes in Turkey.
The big question remains whether he can be persuaded to give up on his Barcelona dream.
