COSAFA to commence recruitment for new Executive Director

The Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) will soon begin the recruitment process for a new Executive Director.

The recruitment will be conducted in line with COSAFA’s Statutes and the procedures outlined by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

Ms Sue Destombes has been a central figure in COSAFA’s development for over two decades, playing a pivotal role in its growth as a leading regional football body. She will be available for a smooth handover to the incoming Executive Director, ensuring a well-structured and stable transition period.

To maintain continuity and institutional memory, COSAFA will retain Ms Destombes in a consultancy capacity. Her extensive expertise in competitions, administration, legacy projects, and capacity-building initiatives will continue to benefit the organisation and its Member Associations.

“It has been a great honour to serve as Executive Director of COSAFA and I am proud of our many achievements over the years, which has positioned COSAFA as a leader on the African continent on and off the pitch,” Ms Destombes said.

“I look forward to continue to serve Southern African football in a consultancy capacity. I firmly believe there is more potential to be unlocked in the region across both genders and all age groups.”

Executive Directors of CAF’s six Zonal Unions are tasked with the overall management and administration of their respective offices, ensuring operations are effective and aligned with CAF regulations.

In 2024, Ms Destombes oversaw the delivery of a record 10 COSAFA tournaments, including five dedicated to women’s football. Among these was the 14-team COSAFA Women’s Championship, the largest international competition for female footballers on the African continent.
